Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation

  • You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment.
  • No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
  • A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home. A cab company is not allowed to take you home.  No patient under the age of 18 may remain in the office without a parent or legal guardian while they are receiving care.
  • The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
  • Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes.  Preferably, please wear a short sleeved shirt.
  • Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
  • Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or apply hand, skin creams or lotions prior to surgery. Please remove heavy fingernail polish or acrylic from at least one finger of one hand prior to your appointment.
  • If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office at least 24 hours before surgery.
  • If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Menendez prior to your surgical date for instructions.
  • Please anticipate staying in our office during your recovery, which may last an hour or longer in addition to your surgery.
  • If you would like your prescriptions filled prior to your appointment, please contact us the day before and we will provide them for you.
  • Please note that family members are not allowed in the surgical or anesthesia recovery area during or after surgery.
